Biography

Ines Katamso is a French-Indonesian artist working at the intersection of contemporary art, ecological research and vernacular cosmologies. Through painting, sculpture and installation, she investigates how scientific observation and animist knowledge can contribute to a new iconography of the living world in the Anthropocene.

Her work develops through collaboration with scientists and local craft communities. Recent projects include a microscopic study of mycelial networks with biologists in Bali, and documentation of endangered plant species at Indonesia's national Herbarium (BRIN). These investigations are translated into materiality, often through soil, treated as a record where geological, biological and cultural processes converge, giving visual and cultural presence to resilient organisms and species that are otherwise unseen.

Recent exhibitions include the Biennale de Lyon (2024), White Cube (2025), Indonesia National Gallery (2026), the Guangzhou Fine Art Museum (2026) and Singapore Art Science Museum (2026). She has exhibited across Europe and Asia and has been an artist-in-residence at the Institut d'Art Contemporain (IAC), France. A solo exhibition is scheduled for 2027 in Shanghai.
